Dear Barrett: –
I apologize deeply that I did not answer your letter of May 12th earlier. But I went, as the Californians say, “native” and was rather lazy for several weeks, not because the sun was burning down on me, but because we had some cloudy weeks. Strange, that if I had this sort of weather in London, I should have been grateful, if it is not foggy and there is no rain. Here one is more spoiled and one just vegetates.
Please straighten things out with Ashley Dukes according to your best judgment.
Hoping that you are in good health and that everything goes well.
Yours ever,
Ernst Toller.
