Dear Mr. Priestley,
I thank you that you gave me the occasion to see your play. I enjoyed it extraordinarily. Characters and atmosphere are sketched in a masterly manner. The play seems to be a very good work. I remarked that you like to omit decisive words but these omissions have effective dramatical power.
The realism of your works brings into my mind the great French and Russian realist.
One scene seems typical for the English character, I think of the scene in which Stella hears that her mother has died. She fears to show her sentiments and regains her attitude by jesting, revealing this simultaneity of sentiments and irony which is highly significant for English people.
Once more many thanks. Please give my greeting to Mrs. Priestly,
yours sincerely
