Miss Barbara Wootton,

Director of Studies for Tutorial Classes,

University of London,

South Kensington, S.W.7.

Dear Miss Wootton,

I am very sorry indeed to cause you such a lot of trouble.

In the first days of September I began a journey through Sowjet-Russia and as the way is rather long I was not sure if it would be possible to be returned on October 6th. That’s the reason why I had begged you to postpone my lecture for a week. As I did not receive any answer I believed that you agreed to it. Returning from Central-Asia to Leningrad I found the telegram that postponing was impossible and a letter that you had made alternative arrangements. The telegram was not redirected. I had not at all expected the invitation to Russia; anyhow I would have returned earlier to keep my promise.

Of course I would lecture at any other time if you wish it.

Yours sincerely
