c./o. Mr. Delahaye

The Crescent Theatre

Birmingham 1

Dear Mr. Morris,

Thank you for your letter of September 7th. I much appreciate your intention of producing “Masses and Man” on October 20th and 21st. Unless you do not change the date I should be glad to attend the production.

Considering the conditions of your theatre I should prefer to leave the rights to you gratuitously; I am sorry not to be able to do so, my plays being banned in Germany and all my savings confiscated, so that I need every penny for my life. I hope you will appreciate this situation of mine and send me five Guineas for both the productions.

Yours very truly,

Ernst Toller.
